Welcome to my Reefkeeping Web Site!

I've been in the reefkeeping hobby since 1992 with a three year hiatus while I was working in Switzerland. I started out with a 75g tank which I sold when I moved overseas.. When I sold it I swore I would never have another reef tank again as it took way too much time, energy and money. Yea, right... Well, after returning to the United States in 1997, I found that the online community had grown considerably and the technology had evolved substantially. So, I caught the bug again. This time I swore I would start small and stay small. I started with a 29 gallon hex tank. My tank was so successful that after 6 months my corals were crowding each other because they were growing like crazy. Well, of course I had to provide them with a larger home - thus my 92g corner tank which I started 29-May-99.

Tank specs:
  • 92 gallon All-Glass reef-readyAquarium corner tank (curved front) with one overflow in the back corner
  • All-Glass Black Stand
  • Home-made canopy
  • Berlin system wth a deep sand bed and live rock
  • 20 gallon aquarium under the tank set up as a refugium where I keep my heaters, skimmer and return pump which also serves as a mixing tank for the effluent from my calcium & Nilsen reactors
  • Deltec APF 600 skimmer. (I abandoned my home made skimmer and my Berlin skimmer powered by a Mag 7 with modified Mazzi injector, as they can't come close to the Deltec). This is one of my better investments.
  • Mag 9 return pump
  • Tunze Turbelle® stream 6100 with the Singlecontroller 7091for wave action and water circulation
  • 400 watt Coral Vue metal halide bulb driven by a Coral Vue electronic ballast (vastly superior to the conventional ballasts) and a Lumenarc reflector
  • Lighting is now a single The canopyA DIY Nilsen kalkwasser reactor
  • A DIY calcium reactor I seem to need both keep up with the calcium demand of the corals.
  • SpectraPure LiterMeter to keep the tank topped off, replacing evaporated water from a supply in the basement
  • AquaFX Mako RO/DI water filter with the chloramine removal upgrade
